Restarting a Mac is a simple process. Here's how you can do it:

  • Using the Apple Menu:
    • Click on the Apple logo in the top-left corner of your screen.
    • From the dropdown menu, select Restart....
  • Using Keyboard Shortcuts:
    • Press Control + Command + Power Button (or Touch ID). On Macs with the Apple T2 Security Chip, you might need to press and hold the power button until you see the options, then choose Restart.
  • Using the Terminal:
    • Open the Terminal application (you can find it in the Utilities folder within the Applications folder, or use Spotlight with Command + Space and then type "Terminal").
    • Type the command sudo shutdown -r now and press Enter. You might be prompted to enter your administrator password.
  • Using the Login Window:
    • If you are logged out or at the login window, you can click on the power icon in the bottom-right corner and choose Restart.

After initiating the restart, your Mac will close all open applications and services before rebooting. Choose the method that is most convenient for you.

Closing running applications on Windows can be done in several ways. Here are a few methods:

  • Using the Taskbar:
    • Locate the application icon on the taskbar (usually at the bottom of the screen).
    • Right-click on the application icon.
    • Choose Close window or Close all windows from the context menu.
  • Using Alt + F4:
    • Bring the application window into focus (click on it).
    • Press Alt + F4 on your keyboard. This keyboard shortcut is a universal way to close the active window.
  • Using Task Manager:
    • Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager.
    • In the "Processes" or "Applications" tab, right-click on the application you want to close.
    • Select End Task or End Process.
  • Using Alt + Tab:
    • Press Alt + Tab to switch between open applications.
    • While holding down the Alt key, press Tab until you reach the application you want to close.
    • With the application selected, press Alt + F4.
  • Using the System Tray:
    • Some applications may run in the system tray (bottom-right corner of the screen near the clock). Right-click on the application icon in the system tray and choose the option to close or exit.

Remember that closing an application might not always exit the program completely, as some applications run background processes. For a more forceful closure, you can use Task Manager as mentioned in method 3.

Closing running applications on a Mac can be done using several methods. Here are some ways:

  • Using the Dock:
    • Locate the application icon in the Dock (usually at the bottom of the screen).
    • Right-click (or control-click) on the application icon.
    • From the context menu, choose Quit.
  • Using the Menu Bar:
    • Click on the application's name in the menu bar (usually at the top of the screen).
    • From the dropdown menu, select Quit [Application Name].
  • Using the Keyboard Shortcut:
    • Bring the application window into focus (click on it).
    • Press Command (⌘) + Q on your keyboard. This is a universal keyboard shortcut for quitting the active application.
  • Using Force Quit:
    • Press Command (⌘) + Option (⌥) + Esc to open the "Force Quit Applications" window.
    • Select the application you want to close.
    • Click Force Quit.
  • Using Activity Monitor:
    • Open Activity Monitor from the Utilities folder (you can find it within the Applications folder or use Spotlight with Command + Space and then type "Activity Monitor").
    • Find the application in the list.
    • Select the application and click the X button in the toolbar to force quit.

Choose the method that best suits your preference or the specific situation. Using the standard quitting methods (Quit from Dock or Menu Bar) is the preferred way to close applications, as it allows the application to perform necessary cleanup tasks before exiting. If an application is unresponsive, you can resort to Force Quit or Activity Monitor to forcefully close it.

  • Review and Manage iCloud Storage:
    • If you use iCloud, check your iCloud storage.
    • Consider moving old or large files to local storage and optimizing iCloud usage.
  • Delete Duplicate Files:
    • Use third-party applications like Gemini or DupeGuru to find and remove duplicate files.
  • Move Photos and Videos to External Storage:
    • Consider moving large photo or video libraries to an external hard drive.
